Undergrad Records - The Show

So it's been quite a while since an actual update, so here's a bit of what's going on:

I am still very much into doing the show. Over the past few months I have spent countless hours promoting the show online, building the fan base on YouTube, spreading out to Twitter, contacting people and music blogs via email to let them know what's going on. I've even been selected as a YouTube Partner, meaning all the videos I post now are eligible for revenue sharing, meaning that when someone CLICKS ON AN AD, I make a bit of money.

LOL. I wish I'd been selected when Episode 4 was featured on the front page of YT. Oh well.

The thing with the music business is that stuff doesn't happen for a long time, then tons of stuff happens all at once. It's just been a lull time for the industry as a whole, but even more so with what's been going on.

However, time for that is changing. As always, it's not really sure what will happen with the label itself, but there will be new episodes soon, hopefully by the end of the month. There's been quite a bit of momentum press wise behind the show lately, so I don't want to let that die. Most people that I've contacted have said the idea is great and they'd like to do a writeup about it, but I need to post a new video, that in which I can't really deny. It's been 6 months since Episode 4 came out.

The most recent development though has been the Kickstarter project. Kickstarter is a new website that allows you to create your own "Jerry's Kids" - meaning you create a project, and you can take pledges (donations) in exchange for goodies. The site is currently invite only, so I was definitely excited when I was asked to be a part of it. In trying to figure out how to take advantage of the funding opportunity, I created a project with a goal of $1,200 - figuring it would be enough to film at least two more episodes (for each episode costs about $750-$1,000 to make and market).

The experience was interesting for sure, but the biggest surprise came from those that DID donate, and the amounts in which they pledged. While the project ultimately didn't reach it's goal, it really gave me an indication of who was in my corner supporting the vision as a whole. The industry is full of people who say they'll help you, but are never around when you need or ask for it. I am eternally grateful for the people that stepped up to support the show - It was just the motivation that I needed.

The fate of the show did not rely on the success of the Kickstarter project - if it did, that would have just been a bad business practice and a mistake all around. I may make another Kickstarter project in the future, but for now, it's still time to try to knock out most of what I can on my own.

That's really it for now. I'm making it a goal to try to keep regular updates here, Twitter, and on YouTube (may start a new series of videos that are more Q&A to get more interaction with fans). Any thoughts that you guys have on pushing the show, the label, or any other ideas in general, I'm definitely open to feedback, and I try to be as approachable as possible.

Drop me a line.
